2039 audition notice

Tantrum Theatre is holding auditions for its forthcoming production of Carl Caulfield’s 2039, a world premiere commissioned by the company as part of the Civic’s 2010 Inspirations subscription series.
The cast is comprised of an even mix of male and female roles, with ages ranging from 16-30.
Auditions for this new work will be held on Sunday 28th August (4pm-9pm) and Monday 30th August (2pm-6pm), with callbacks to be held on Sunday 5th September (6pm-9pm). Auditions will be held upstairs at Civic Arcade (403 Hunter St – please wait outside glass doors until called) on both days.
For the audition, you will be required to prepare a short contemporary monologue that you feel best showcases your skills. After presenting this, you will undertake a brief cold read of an excerpt from the script.
If you are successful in being cast, you will be required to pay a performance fee to Tantrum Theatre ($100) as well as an annual membership fee ($25) if you are not already a financial member.
The performance season is 18-27 November 2010 at The Playhouse, with rehearsals part-time from September onwards.
To book an audition time, please email Tantrum’s Artistic Director, Brendan O’Connell at ad@tantrumtheatre.org.au.
“Tantrum Theatre and acclaimed Newcastle playwright Carl Caulfield come together for the first time with an exciting new collaboration to close out the Civic's 2010 Inspirations Playhouse season.
2039 is an edgy, satiric, black comedy that looks to the future to examine the present. Directed by Brendan O'Connell, this dark, dystopian political thriller will use eye-catching multimedia techniques, including the integration of film and movement. This new play by one of Newcastle's most popular dramatists will explore ideas about religion, freedom, uses of technology, surveillance, terrorism, celebrity, and notions of reality.”
