TANTRUM Company

Over the last 32 years, TANTRUM’s been considered a bit of a freak show around town. TANTRUM’S where wildly creative young people gather to produce out there theatrical productions. We showcase the weird and the wonderful and celebrate the finest talent and the gutsiest young artists and professionals who make theatre powerful, wacky and great! 2008 is no exception. From the freaky to the mad to the eccentric to the too-cool-for-school, TANTRUM is the place to be. We kick off the year with Louis Nowra’s wonderfully wacky play Cosi. Ideal for HSC students, our production will be a part of the 2008 Civic Inspirations Season and celebrate all that’s wonderful about not fitting in and aiming for the stars. In June our whole acting company, from 5 to 26years will combine forces to bring us an @HOME showcase of new quirky and freaky performances originally conceived over two terms with TANTRUM tutors and friends. Our seniors will collaborate with award winning playwright David Brown in a promenade production of LA LA LAND, set in the evocative Performing Arts Newcastle and exploring the effects of drug culture on fragile minds. Our junior company will finish off the year by taking us to the dog-eat-dog world of the school playground devising and presenting the hilarious Bullies, Wannabies and Dorks. Throughout 2008 TANTRUM will continue to run weekly workshops for all those interested in theatre and drama. No matter what your level of experience, just come and have some fun! We will welcome to our company our youngest actors yet, our new performance troupe of 5 to 8 year olds. We will run HSC master classes, specialised workshops for schools, outreach workshops around our community and continue to deliver great experiences with and for young people wherever we are. We can’t wait to create, inspire and transport ourselves, our actors and our audience throughout 2008.
